We all want to take a vacation; we plan at least one vacation a year or more. But we do not want to leave our friends at home without us and alone. Our loved ones that we can leave or take care of may not always be available. So, can we fly with our pet friends on the plane when we go on vacation? Our answer is yes. So, let's take a look at up-to-date information on pet transportation on air travel.

Pet Transport Rules

According to some rules determined on airplanes, the transportation of cats, dogs, and other pets can take place both in the cabins and in the cargo compartments. Only cats, dogs, and small songbirds are allowed to fly as pets with the passenger. Cats and dogs must not exceed 8 kilograms, including their cage, and the cage dimensions must not exceed 23 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 40 cm in length, although it differs in centimeters according to the flight companies. Of course, it is useful to add that pets can be transported on the plane up to a certain quota.

Pets Needs on Airplanes

In order for your pets to be transported in the cabin or in the cargo hold, it is requested that the reservation be made 6 hours before the flight time. On the cages, information such as the name, surname, address, and telephone number of the passenger must be present. It would be very logical to have documents such as vaccination papers, IDs, or health documents of your pet with you, in order to present them to the relevant authorities if necessary. Don't get a last-minute surprise. If the traveling pet is pregnant, not weaned, or a nursing mother, these pets are not accepted on the flight. One of the other conditions is that our pet friend who will travel is older than 10 or 12 weeks. It is also worth noting that an additional fee is charged for the traveling pet, excluding luggage.

Other Important Information About Pet Flights

Travel requests with pets can be refused at the airport, even if confirmed at the time of booking. In some companies, cats, and dogs, cats and birds cannot be accepted on the same flight, even in separate cabins. However, the dog and the bird can be taken to the flight in separate cabins or in the same cabin and as far as possible. Another demand is to keep the cage under the front seat during travel.
