Gotik mimari tarzının en iyi temsilcilerinden bir tanesi olan kalenin toplam yüksekliği 2325 metre. Yapı inşa edildikten sonra uzun süre Meksika İmparatoru I. Maximilian'ın ikametgâhı olarak kullanılmış. Ayrıca gözlem evi, kara harp okulu gibi amaçlarla da kullanıldığı bilinmektedir.
