In fact, 64% of the country is covered by mountains, with the mighty Himalayas dominating the entire landscape.

Nepal is rich in culture and history, with unique temples and UNESCO heritage sites that are some of its biggest attractions. You can start your journey by exploring Durbar Square in the heart of Kathmandu and its hidden temples. Then head to Swayambhu to experience breathtaking views of the city. Not to be missed is Boudhanath, one of Nepal's most sacred Buddhist monuments, and the Boudhanath Stupa in the same area. Also worth a visit is Pashupatinath, one of the most important Hindu temples in Nepal, with hundreds of smaller temples and stupas along the roads and passes in the Himalayas. 

3. Local People

Nepal is known for its friendly and hospitable locals who are proud of their diverse ethnic groups. In Kathmandu, you will also notice that the city's relaxed lifestyle is reflected in the diverse population, as you will encounter people from all over the world. Nepalese are known for their hospitality and genuine interest in getting to know travelers. With their warm smiles, kindness and generosity, you can be sure that the Nepalese people will make you feel at home in their beautiful country. 

4. Nature

Nepal is home to some of the world's most iconic wild animals, from tigers and rhinos to various species of deer and Himalayan brown bears. Take an unforgettable elephant safari through the lush green meadows of Chitwan National Park and witness the country's biodiversity first-hand. The land is also home to more than 850 species of birds.

6. Festivals

Shivaratri

There always seems to be a reason to celebrate in Nepal.  More than 50 official festivals and numerous traditional celebrations always create a festive atmosphere in the country. The most exciting time of the year is probably the month-long Dashain and Tihar festivals. During these festivals, the streets are decorated with festive decorations and the sound of drums fills the air. During Holi, the festival of colors, revelers have fun with colored powders and sprays. Shivaratri, the festival dedicated to Shiva, is another interesting event with unusual traditions and rituals. Nepal also has four different New Years, reflecting the diversity of its people and traditions.

7. Food

The heart of Nepalese cuisine is Dal Bhat, a hearty mix of lentils and rice that is not only nutritious but also incredibly delicious. For something a little different, try Momo, a delicious steamed dumpling filled with vegetables or meat and served with spicy sauce. But be careful, Nepali cuisine can be quite spicy, so remember to ask for a milder option if you don't like spicy food.

Nepal is home to an impressive 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making it one of the most culturally rich and diverse countries in the world. From the stunning stupas and temples of Kathmandu to the natural beauty of Chitwan National Park, Nepal's heritage sites offer a glimpse into the country's intriguing history and stunning biodiversity. Explore Kathmandu's Durbar Square, a thriving center filled with temples, palaces and historical sites, or head to Lumbini, where Buddha is said to have been born.
