Things You Need to Know Before Visiting Agra

As the home of India’s best-known landmark, the Taj Mahal, Agra is one of the most touristic cities in the country! Travelers who have set out on a journey to India must visit Agra. We listed a couple of “must know” facts before going to Agra in this article.

Attention: Traffic!

The first stop of tourists in India is usually New Delhi. If you are planning to travel from New Delhi to Agra, you must be prepared for a bus journey for 6-7 hours. You are in the second most crowded country in the world!

Be meticulous about your tour times.

Considering that India is an especially hot country, past sundown will be the best times to visit the Taj Mahal. You can also take remarkable pictures against the unique view.

Be prepared for a long ticket line in front of the Taj Mahal.

Yes, you read that correct. Since the Taj Mahal is a historical structure, you must pay an entrance fee to see this unmatched structure up-close. No matter in which season you visit, you will first need to get past a long ticket queue.

The only transportation alternative is the bus.

Even though most of India has a wide subway and train network, Agra has neither. Your only means of transportation will be the buses. This means that you will spend a considerable amount of time for commute.

There is no nightlife as observed in other popular touristic spots.

Compared to Western countries, there is no night life culture in Agra. It is not possible to find entertainment places open until late in the night. Thus, you can enjoy Agra more if you are aiming for a cultural visit instead of entertainment.

Where to visit other than the Taj Mahal?

Historically speaking, Agra is India’s richest city. You can see many historical structures that were successfully preserved. The must-see structure after the Taj Mahal is the Agra Fort. This fort left from the Mughal Dynasty will enchant you. The Moti Masjid (Red Fort), the Tomb of Akbar the Great, and Jama Masjid are many of the touristic attractions in the city.

Our suggestion for your Agra trip is the Fatehpur (Circus). This structure built on a gigantic area is a city on its own: a city of dreams! We are certain that it will be one of your most mysterious trips!
