Temple of Apollo

A visit to the historical heritage of Didyma Ancient City in Aydın is incomplete without experiencing the awe-inspiring Temple of Apollo. Rare in its architectural beauty, it stands as a testament to both Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. The tale of the temple is equally fascinating. Legend has it that Brankhos, a shepherd from the Didyma region, encountered the God Apollo. Impressed by Brankhos' genuine nature, Apollo imparted divine prophecy to him. In honor of this, Brankhos built a temple for Apollo, nestled alongside a laurel forest and a natural spring. This ancient marvel has withstood the test of time and is a sight not to be missed during your visit to Didim.

Miletus Theater and Museum

The Miletus Theater, an enduring structure from the Roman era, spans an impressive length of 150 meters. Originally commissioned by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, it was primarily reserved for statesmen and bureaucrats of the time. Initially accommodating up to 5,000 spectators, it was expanded during the Roman period to hold a staggering 15,000 individuals. The attention to acoustic detail, coupled with a harbor at the rear, exemplifies the ingenuity of its design.

The Miletus Museum, on the other hand, offers an immersive journey into the history of Didim. It proudly showcases a multitude of artifacts unearthed during excavations, both indoors and in the museum's outdoor garden. From inscriptions and sarcophagi to columns, pottery from different eras, coins, and currency, the museum encapsulates the rich heritage of the region.
