Best Time to Go

So you've decided to visit Tulum, but when is the best time to go? Tulum is a magical place to visit all year round, but it's important to keep the weather in mind when planning your trip. Generally speaking, from May to November the climate is hot and humid, while the monsoon season is known for heavy rain and humidity. The dry season between December and April brings cooler temperatures and less rainfall. If you want to escape the heat and crowds of the high season between January and March, we recommend visiting between late November and December. 

Archaeological Site

When it comes to things to do in Tulum, the ancient Mayan city is a must-visit. With its stunningly preserved ruins, this site is a testament to the rich cultural history of the region and offers a unique insight into the life of the Mayan people.

"El Castillo" is a particular must-visit for its beautiful views of the tropical coastline, but don't miss the Temple of the Fresco. To avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting early in the morning before people arrive so you can enjoy the views and architecture without rushing.

Punta Soliman

Located 15 kilometers from the bustling city of Tulum, Punta Soliman is the perfect respite from the crowds on popular beaches. This intimate beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and crystal clear waters that reflect the beauty of the Caribbean Sea. White sands and coral reefs make it the perfect place to swim, sunbathe and snorkel without the crowds. This is one of the most beautiful places in Tulum, both as a peaceful relaxation area and as a place to be alone with the deep blue waters. 

Tankha

Tankha is the perfect getaway for those looking for a private oasis in the Riviera Maya. For a small entrance fee you can enjoy the private cove equipped with all the amenities for a relaxing day at the beach. You'll find refreshing crystal clear sea, sun loungers and even hammocks under the palm trees while enjoying food and drinks at the bar and restaurant. The area is protected from algae pollution, making it an ideal place for swimming and snorkeling. You can take a short walk and dive through the dense vegetation to discover small private cenotes that will make an unforgettable addition to your beach experience.

Akumal

Among the many stunning beach towns and villages along the Riviera Maya, Akumal is a must-visit for those eager to soak in nature's splendor and the unique chance to swim with sea turtles. This captivating community derives its name from the marine reptiles that inhabit the coastal waters, with "Aku" in Mayan translating to "turtle". The marine reserve harbors a thriving population of sea turtles, including green sea turtles, hawksbill sea turtles, and leatherback sea turtles. Visitors can embark on a tour for an unforgettable experience swimming alongside these majestic creatures, all of which are protected in Mexico.

Sian Ka’an Reserv

If you're a nature enthusiast, you shouldn't overlook the Sian Ka'an Reserve. Spanning 1.3 million acres, it stands as the largest protected area in all of Caribbean Mexico and holds UNESCO World Heritage Site status due to its ecological significance and rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. To safeguard the area's natural beauty and minimize environmental impact, visitation is restricted, with only guided tours available. These tours are conducted in small groups, reducing disturbance to the animals and plants while allowing you to observe crocodiles, exotic birds, dolphins, turtles, and numerous other species found within the reserve up close. As if that weren't enough, most tours also include a delectable fish lunch, providing a savory meal with a backdrop of the stunning natural surroundings.

Xel-Ha Water Park

Renowned for its natural and eco-friendly water park, the town of Xel-Ha, approximately a twenty-minute drive from Tulum, is an incredible destination that caters not only to children but also offers a plethora of activities suitable for adults. From cycling to boating, kayaking, ziplining, and cliff diving, there's something for everyone. The water park places particular emphasis on ecological conservation, prohibiting visitors from bringing sunscreen from outside. Instead, you'll be provided with environmentally friendly sunscreen, and you'll receive your own sunscreen back upon departure. Entry to the water park requires payment, and though it may seem pricey to some, this fee covers the services of the park's restaurants. As a side note, the name Xel-Ha means "the place where water is born" in the Mayan language, making it an apt name for this location.
