Can Anyone Go Paragliding?

While paragliding isn’t as difficult as it looks, it’s not an easy sport either. As with any sport, it’s essential to receive proper training. Certified paragliding pilots can perform solo flights, but amateurs must have the support of an expert. Tandem flights, where both the amateur and the professional fly together using the same parachute, are common. As long as there are no health issues, the only things required for the flight are muscle strength and wind power. Once all necessary checks are completed and a suitable environment is chosen, you advance quickly toward the edge of the slope, and the flight begins as the parachute fills with air.

How is Paragliding Done?

Paragliding is classified under very lightweight aircraft and can be done in any suitable environment due to its easily portable equipment. No special runway is needed for takeoff or landing. The natural uplifting force allows the paraglider to stay in the air for hours without any issues, even soaring up to the clouds and enjoying the breathtaking views. Paragliding, one of the most popular extreme sports worldwide, is also widely practiced in Türkiye. Compared to other air sports, it’s more affordable and practical, making it even more advantageous.

What is the Best Season for Paragliding?

Paragliders often prefer the spring and autumn months when wind conditions are more favorable. It’s essential to consider weather conditions at all times when paragliding. The weather should be dry, sunny, and calm, so if you plan to go paragliding, be sure to choose the right weather conditions.

Where to Go Paragliding in Fethiye?

Fethiye is one of the most beloved locations for paragliders. During the season, you can often see both amateur and professional paragliders in the area. The best spot for paragliding in Fethiye is Babadağ. Located about 30-45 minutes by car from Ölüdeniz Beach, Babadağ is famous for being the first place in Türkiye where paragliding was done. The environment and geological structure make it perfect for paragliding.

Babadağ stands at about 1,960 meters in height and offers several launch points on its slopes, making it an easy starting place. Paragliders taking off from Babadağ get to witness the magnificent view of Ölüdeniz. There are four takeoff points at Babadağ, situated at 1,200, 1,700, 1,800, and 1,960 meters above sea level. Each of these points faces a different wind direction, offering various advantages. To take off, pilots use a launch technique that involves facing the wind.

Amateur paragliders can take off from the spot chosen by the expert pilot based on suitable wind and weather conditions. All the takeoff runways at Babadağ are flat and wide, allowing paragliders to take off easily without any problems. This spaciousness also allows multiple paragliders to take off simultaneously. For landing, Belcekız Beach in Ölüdeniz is commonly used. The beach is long and wide, providing a comfortable and safe landing area for paragliders.
